DURHAM, N.C. – In a tightly contest battle which featured seven lead changes, the Black team eked out a 4-3 victory over the Blue squad in game three of the Duke baseball team’s Blue vs. Black Fall World Series. Black now leads Blue 2-1 in the series.

The Black team grabbed the lead for good following a strong showing in the eighth inning. Senior Jordan Betts crossed the plate on an RBI single off the bat of classmate Matt Berezo.

Blue took an early lead in the top of the first as senior David Perkins singled to ignite the offense. A Ryan Deitrich single then moved Perkins in to scoring position and Perkins later crossed the plate for the 1-0 advantage.

Black responded with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. A wild pitch allowed the Black team to get on the board.

An RBI groundout from Deitrich in the fifth plated senior Anthony D’Alessandro to score Blue’s third run.

Junior LHP Remy Janco pitched 3.3 strong innings in relief to earn the win for Black, while junior RHP Andrew Istler gave up a solo run in the eighth to take the loss.

The Blue and Black teams square off Tuesday, Oct. 29 for game four of Duke’s annual intrasquad series. The Blue Devil Network will stream audio of the contest with Chris Edwards on the call.
