DURHAM, N.C. - As the 2012-13 academic year approaches, the 2012 summer collegiate baseball campaign is coming to an end with several members of the Duke baseball team back on campus after the completion of their summer seasons.

Several Blue Devils helped guide their clubs to championship seasons, starting with senior Jeff Kremer and junior Drew Van Orden, who led the Anchorage Glacier Pilots to the Alaska Baseball League title. A first team all-league selection, Kremer finished the summer campaign with a .347 batting average, good for fifth in the league.

The Harrisonburg Turks, featuring Blue Devils David Perkins and Mark Lumpa, captured the Valley Baseball League crown on Saturday, August 4, with a 5-3 win over the Winchester Royals. Perkins, one of four players on the Harrisonburg roster with a batting average above .300, ended the summer with 10 doubles and 22 RBI to go along with a .308 average.

In New England Collegiate Baseball League action, junior Jordan Betts was an key contributor on a Sandford Mainers squad that advanced to the NECBL semifinals before falling to the Newport Gulls. Betts ended the regular season with a team-high 11 home runs, 38 RBI, 21 runs and eight doubles.

After a slow start, junior Angelo La Bruna came on strong over the second half of the summer with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League. La Bruna went on a tear during a 16 game stretch from July 11 - August 4, hitting .356 (21-for-59) with four home runs and 14 RBI against some of the top collegiate pitchers in the country. Orleans closes out the regular season tonight against the Chatham Anglers.
