DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off hosting its annual Blue/White scrimmage on Sunday, the Duke women’s basketball team will next welcome Glenville State College to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free for all fans.
Glenville State is a Division II institution that is coming off posting a 27-4 overall record and 21-1 mark in the Mountain East Conference. The Lady Pioneers return four starters off last year’s squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Charles Marshall, who enters his first year at Glenville State, returns the top four scorer’s from a year ago including Ginny Mills (19.0 points, 122 treys), Kenyona Simmons (15.0 points, 6.2 rebounds), Ashleigh Fossett (12.6 points, 77 treys) and Kenyell Goodson (10.9 points, 85 treys).
The Lady Pioneers averaged 14.0 three-pointers made per game in 2012-13 and hit a total of 433 on the season, which were both NCAA Division II records. They also drained 29 three-pointers in a single game. Glenville State also averaged a NCAA Division II best 95.4 points a game last year.
In the Blue/White scrimmage on Sunday, Duke was led by sophomore Alexis Jones with a total of 29 points, while senior Haley Peters and senior Tricia Liston each added 20 points over the four quarters. Freshman Oderah Chidom pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds over a span of 34 minutes.
Following Wednesday game, Duke will close its exhibition play on Sunday, Nov. 3 against Coker College at 2:00 p.m. This game will also be free admission.
Duke will open the regular season on Nov. 10 at nationally-ranked California. The game will be aired live on ESPNU with a 6:00 p.m., tip-off.
