Three Duke Signees Named to WBCA All-America Team

DURHAM, N.C. – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced on Tuesday the participants for the 2013 WBCA High School America Game presented by NIKE with three future Blue Devils on the roster.  Oderah Chidom of Oakland, Calif., Kendall Cooper of Carson, Calif., and Rebecca Greenwell of Owensboro, Ky., were three of the 20 selected to the team.

Duke and North Carolina led all schools with three selections each.  The 22nd annual All-America game will be played on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the New Orleans Arena, site of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Final Four.  Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. (CT). 

Other participants in the 2013 contest will be Lindsay Allen (Notre Dame), Alexis Brown (Maryland), Saniya Chong (UConn), Nia Coffey (Northwestern), Kaela Davis (Georgia Tech), Diamond Deshields (UNC), Linnae Harper (Kentucky), Jessica Jackson (undeclared), Stephanie Mavunga (UNC), Erica McCall (Stanford), Kelsey Plum (Washington), Taya Reimer (Notre Dame), Mercedes Russell (Tennessee), Karlie Samuelson (Stanford), Tyler Scaife (Rutgers), Jessica Washington (UNC) and Ronni Williams (Florida).

On the season, Cooper is averaging 11.0 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.9 blocks and 2.7 assists at St. Anthony’s H.S.  The 6-3 forward has totaled 11 double-doubles on the season and versus Bishop Montgomery in December she notched 20 points and 22 rebounds.  Cooper blocked a season-high nine shots in the second game of the season.

Out of Owensboro Catholic H.S., Greenwell owns averages of 24.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals.  Greenwell collected a national record of 17 three-pointers on Jan. 14 against Trinity as she finished with a season-high 51 points.  The 6-1 guard is coming off notching 17 points and 15 rebounds in the Class A State Championship victory over Newport Central Catholic H.S., on Jan. 27.

Chidom owns season averages of 15.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 3.0 assists at Bishop O’Dowd High School.  A 6-4 forward, Chidom was recently featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd section in December. 

Any graduating senior can be nominated for the WBCA High School All-America Team by a high school or AAU coach who is an active WBCA member. The 20-player All-America team and a 20-player honorable mention team are selected from the nominees by a selection committee composed of WBCA-member girls’ high school basketball coaches who represent nine geographical districts across the country.

Duke’s fourth signee Kianna Holland of Seneca, S.C., was selected a 2013 WBCA High School All-America honorable mention.  On the season, Holland has averaged 35.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.5 assists.  The 5-9 guard six games with 40 or more points and a season high of 50 points against Blacksburg on Dec. 21.  Holland has scored 30 or more points in 11 of 16 contests.

The four-member recruiting class for Duke has been tabbed No. 2 nationally.
