DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior wide receiver Jamison Crowder was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Receiver of the Week, and redshirt sophomore safety Jeremy Cash received Defensive Back of the Week honors, the ACC announced Monday.
The ACC Player of the Week citation is the third of the season for Crowder, who has twice been named ACC Specialist of the Week for his work in the punt return game. Cash, meanwhile, received his first career ACC weekly honor as the duo helped Duke to a 38-31 win over Troy during homecoming Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Crowder hauled in seven receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown while returning two punts for 31 yards. His 149 receiving yards marked his third 100-yard receiving game of the season, while the 60-yard touchdown reception gave him a touchdown catch for the second straight game. Crowder ranks among the top three in the ACC in receptions per game (7.4), receiving yards per game (106.0) and touchdown receptions (2) and leads the nation in punt return yards (289) while ranking among the NCAA’s top 10 in yards per punt return (19.3) and punt return touchdowns (2).
Cash, who is playing his first season with the Blue Devils after transferring from Ohio State following the 2011 season, amassed 14 tackles against Troy, including 2.5 for loss, and a game-clinching interception as time expired. Cash has logged double-digit tackles in three straight games and is the ACC’s leading tackler with 10.2 stops per game. His interception – the first of his career – came near the end zone on a Troy Hail Mary pass at the end of regulation and sealed Duke’s 38-31 victory.
Following Duke’s first bye week of the season, Cash and Crowder will lead Duke into a Saturday, Oct. 12 matchup against Navy at Wallace Wade Stadium. The game kicks off at 12:30 p.m., and tickets are available at www.GoDuke.com/Tickets or by calling (919) 681-BLUE.
