DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke women’s tennis team garnered the No. 2 ranking in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I National Team Rankings of the season, as announced Tuesday. UCLA claimed the top ranking, coming on the heels of the Bruins’ 2014 NCAA Team Championship in Athens, Ga.
In addition to UCLA and Duke, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Florida concluded the season in the top five while No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 Stanford, No. 9 Texas A&M and No. 10 California rounded out the top 10.
Duke remained among the ITA’s top 10 throughout the season, sitting at No. 10 for three weeks before winning the ITA National Team Indoor Championship and holding the No. 1 ranking for nine weeks throughout the season.
The Blue Devils reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Team Championship before suffering a setback to UCLA, 4-2, May 17. Duke concluded the season with an overall record of 27-5, tying for the fourth most team wins in a season in Duke history.
