PORTLAND, Ore. – As five members of the Duke women’s tennis team gets set to participate in the USTA Collegiate Invitational from Nov. 1-3, one specific Blue Devil – Annie Mulholland – will be heading home to Portland, Ore.

Mulholland, who is a product of Portland, Ore., attended The Pendleton School prior to arriving in Durham three years ago.  The 5-10 junior and the rest of the Blue Devils kick off action at the Tualatan Hills Tennis Center on Friday.

Teams competing this weekend include Michigan, Duke, USTA, Nebraska, UCLA, Texas, Texas A&M and Portland.

Doubles play will start things off on Friday, Nov. 1 at 12:00 p.m. (EST).  Duke will feature two tandems Hanna Mar and Alyssa Smith along with second-seeded Ester Goldfeld and Mulholland.  The duo of Mar/Smith will face Samantha Hampton and Eric Oosterhout of USTA, while Goldfeld/Mulholland opens with Portland’s Emily Gould and Maja Mladenovic.  

In singles action, Mulholland has Maggy Lehmicke of Nebraska in the first round on Friday at 10:30 a.m., and then has Oosterhout of USTA on the schedule for Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4:00 p.m.  

A senior from Burr Ridge, Ill., 24th-ranked Mar will go up against Mason Strickland on Friday, then will face Courtney Dolehide of UCLA on Saturday.  She will close the weekend with USTA’s Ena Shibahara on Sunday.  

Goldfeld, who is ranked 42nd-nationally, will face Annat Rabinovich of Texas on the first day, will then take on Alexandra Letzt of USTA on Saturday and takes on Mladenovic of Portland on Sunday.  Smith, who is a freshman from Laguna Niguel, Calif., will feature two singles matches on Friday.  She will battle Lina Pademigaite of Texas at 1:30 p.m., and then Samantha Hampton of USTA.  Smith will finish her action on Sunday against 59th-ranked Sarah Lee of Michigan.

Other singles matches for Duke include 78th-ranked Marianne Jodoin taking on Peggy Porter of USTA on Friday, followed by a match versus 63rd-ranked Catherine Harrison of UCLA.  Jodoin, a native of Varennes, Quebec, is also slated to face Jana McCord of Texas on Sunday.
