TULSA, Okla. – The Duke men’s tennis team wrapped up qualifying play at the 2013 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships Wednesday, with junior Raphael Hemmeler and sophomore Bruno Semenzato both competing in the final round of the singles draw.

Coming off of his sixth straight win to start the fall, Semenzato claimed the first set against Florida State’s Benjamin Lock, 7-5. However, Lock went on to take the next two sets, ending Semenzato’s run in the tournament.

Second-seeded and 49th-ranked Hemmeler also earned a spot in Wednesday’s final round of singles, going up against 30th-seeded and 85th-ranked Axel Alvarez of Oklahoma. After Alvarez took the first set by a 6-3 score, Hemmeler battled back to win the second set, 6-0. In the deciding set, Alvarez notched a 6-4 win to advance to the event’s main draw.

Following the completion of the qualifying singles and doubles stages in Tulsa, the ITA All-American Championships main draw will get underway Thursday, Oct. 3. Twenty-sixth ranked Fred Saba and 22nd-ranked Michael Redlicki received automatic bids to the singles main draw, with Saba slated to face No. 73 Arturs Kazijevs of SMU and Redlicki to go up against 16th-seeded and 20th-ranked Mac Styslinger of Virginia in Thursday’s first round. Hemmeler gained entry to the main draw on a withdraw by another player, and will take on No. 54 Winston Lin of Columbia.

Duke will also be represented in the doubles main draw, with the 25th-ranked tandem of Hemmeler and Semenzato earning a first-round meeting with Georgia’s second-seeded and second-ranked pair of Hernus Pieters and Ben Wagland Thursday afternoon.
