Blue Devils Listed No. 3 in Final Golf World Poll
DURHAM, N.C. – The final Golf World/WGCA Division I College Women’s Coaches’ Poll of the 2012 fall season was released on Monday with Duke listed No. 3 nationally. In four tournaments this fall, the Blue Devils turned in two second place ledgers, while also placing fourth and sixth.
Southern California remained the No. 1 team in the nation followed by Washington, Duke, Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, North Carolina and Vanderbilt in the top 10.
Duke concluded the fall with a second place finish at the Landfall Tradition. The Blue Devils were down by only one stroke after the first round and held a four-stroke lead mid-way through the second round before the final two rounds were cancelled due to inclement weather from hurricane Sandy. In the season-opener, Duke turned in a second place ledger at the Cougar Classic.
The Blue Devils were led by the trio of senior
Lindy Duncan, freshman
Celine Boutier and junior
Laetitia Beck during the fall. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan posted a team-best 71.60 stroke average and notched three top 10 placements. Boutier, who is from Montrouge, France, collected a 73.50 stroke average, one top five and two top 20 finishes. Along with four rounds of even or under par, Beck totaled a 73.80 stroke average and two top 20 placements.
Duke will be off until Feb. 11-13 when the Blue Devils will travel to Palos Verdes, Calif., to participate in the Northrop Grumman Challenge.
