Barbas Finishes Second on Day Two of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior Michael Barbas finishes second in the college division of the men's shot put to highlight day two of the 2012 Penn Relays.  The Houston, Texas, native earned a mark of 57-0.0 (17.37) to earn him the silver medal slot. 

Barbas earns the Blue Devil's third second place finish of the weekend with Shannon Sullivan placing second in the women's javelin and Dominick Robinson finishing second in the college division of the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Thursday.

On the track, The men's distance medley relay team, consisting of senior Stephen Clark, sophomore Ben Raskin, sophomore Curtis Beach and junior Domenick DeMatteo, finished 13th with a final time of 9:58.03. 

The women's sprint medley relay ran a time of 4:00.70 to finish 14th overall.  Freshman Teddi Maslowski led the squad off and was joined by senior Nicole Ragucci, freshman Abby Farley and senior Cydney Ross

The Blue Devils are expecting an action packed day of competition Saturday to conclude the Penn Relays weekend.  The sophomore jumping duo of Tanner Anderson and Michael Krone will compete in the men's high jump while sophomore Justin Amezquita will participate in the pole vault. 

On the track, Duke will field a very strong men's 4xmile relay team consisting of DeMatteo, senior Andrew Brodeur and freshmen Nate McClafferty and Morgan Pearson. Finally, to conclude the day, the women's 4x400 meter relay team will compete in the ECAC finals after qualifying on Thursday.  A full recap will be available after the competition on www.GoDuke.com
