Duke sophomore Emma Lazaroff will blog throughout the 2014 season, providing fans with an inside look at life on the Blue Devil women's lacrosse team. Look for Emma's blog all year on GoDuke.com.

Hello from Durham!

It’s been a bit since the last blog post, but as you all know, things get hectic around here as the fall semester starts to wind down towards Thanksgiving and finals in December. (Yet, here I am writing this blog rather than writing my papers for class).

This week was the last few days of fall ball – it’s a bit weird actually. No more eight-hour weeks, fall ball tournaments or hill runs (please, no more hill runs). Everyone scurried out of lift to make flights or to beat traffic as they headed home for some much needed home-cooked meals. Soon enough it is going to time for game film, new plays and, best of all, team meals (it is all about the food, you know).

Since it is Thanksgiving, this post is really about expressing how lucky we all are to be part of Duke University and its tradition of excellence.  You can’t help but notice the successes of Duke Athletics so far this fall. Duke football is a legitimate force in the ACC, the field hockey team made it to the national championship, women’s soccer has moved on to the elite eight, volleyball is on an amazing run and Duke basketball, men and women, is, well, crazy as always. The support within the Duke Athletics family is truly remarkable. Since we are a spring sport, just seeing our classmates, roommates and best friends succeed on the field this fall has been inspiring and motivating for us to work hard every day. The energy reverberating off the weight room walls when field hockey beat top-ranked Maryland was undeniable and I hope they know how much of an effect their success has on our team.

So, as we all head home for Thanksgiving break, and soon after for Christmas break, from all of us at Duke women’s lacrosse, we want to thank all the fall sport student-athletes and coaches for representing Duke and for motivating us to have the success that you did.  Because of the standards you’ve set, Duke women’s lacrosse will be ready to compete, ready to win ACC’s and ready to win a national championship. Duke University deserves nothing less, and we are ready to work for it.

Now bring on the Turkey!
