DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman attacker Kelci Smesko of the Duke women’s lacrosse team was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after registering a career-high seven points in the Blue Devils’ 18-9 win over Boston University Sunday, May 5 at Koskinen Stadium.
Smesko led all scorers in Sunday’s contest, turning in career-highs in points (seven) and goals (four) to propel Duke during a 12-1 scoring run. She also matched a career-high with three assists and continues to rank second on the team in that category with 16. The Ridgewood, N.J., native owns four hat tricks on the season to go with five multiple assist efforts and ranks among the top 15 players in the Atlantic Coast Conference at 2.47 points per game.
The Blue Devils will be making their 16th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship when they open first round play against Princeton Friday, May 10 at 7:15 p.m. The game will be played at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., and will also be streamed online at CBSSports.com. Tickets for the game are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, and may be purchased online or at the stadium.
