Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team will put its five game winning streak on the line when it travels to Piscataway, NJ, for a meeting with the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University Tuesday afternoon.
The Pride (25-17) is coming off a three-game sweep of Delaware on the road that vaulted the team back into second place in the CAA standings. Red-shirt Nick Kozlowski will make his first career start in today's game. The right-hander is 0-0 with a 4.32 ERA in six appearances this year.
Hofstra continues its dominating offensive production as the team ranks second in the nation (through games of 4/29) in batting (.337), third in scoring (8.2), fourth in runs (343), third in hits (503), second in doubles (112), third in slugging (.484) and second in stolen bases (125).
Seniore Danny Poma is second in the country in batting with a .449 average and leads the nation in hits (80), runs (60) and doubles (26). Junior Jared Hammer is 14th in the country in batting (.405) and ranks fourth in RBIs (54).
Rutgers (26-17) won all four of its games last week including a three-game sweep over Cincinnati on the road. Patrick Kivlehan is the Scarlet Knight's top hitter with a .399 average, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. Pat O'Leary gets the start for Rutgers. He is 2-0 with a 3.94 ERA in eight appearances (four starts).
Following the Rutgers game, Hofstra will return home to host Northeastern in a three-game CAA series beginning on Friday.
