N.Y. – The field is set for the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Championship,
which will be held at Hofstra Softball Stadium from May 9-11. There is no admission
charge for the tournament and the winner will receive the conference's
automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Live audio and stats for all games at the CAA Championship can be found at GoHofstra.com.
Top-seeded Hofstra will face fourth-seeded Delaware in the first round on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Second-seeded James Madison will face No. 3 Georgia State in the 5 p.m. game.
The four-team double-elimination tournament will pit the Pride (35-13, 19-0 in the CAA) against Delaware (15-39-1, 8-12 CAA), which used a dramatic 10-inning victory over Drexel in the regular season finale to grab the final playoff spot. JMU (29-24, 15-5 CAA) and defending tournament-champion Georgia State (36-16, 13-7 CAA) round out the field.
Thursday's schedule features three games starting at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. The championship game is set for noon on Friday.
Hofstra has captured eight of the last 10 CAA softball titles from 2002-11 and has made
an appearance every year since the start of CAA softball in 2002. James Madison
will be making its eighth appearance at the CAA championship and look to take
the title for the first time since 2009. Georgia State, the defending
champions, will be making its sixth appearance in the tournament. Delaware will
be making its second straight appearance in the tournament.
