Queens, NY - Frank Schwindel drove in five runs and Jeremy Baltz added four RBIs as St. John's picked up a 16-3 win over the Pride Wednesday afternoon at Kaiser Stadium.
Hofstra sees its seven-game winning streak halted with the loss and fall to 18-13. St. John's improves to 19-14 with the win.
The Red Storm collected 21 hits en route to the win. Schwindel and Matt Wessinger both had four hits to pace the St. John's offense. The home team scored 13 runs between the third and sixth innings to turn a 1-0 lead into a 14-0 advantage.
Hofstra got on the scoreboard in the seventh when T.J. Thomas led off with a double and scored on Matt Reistetter's single. The Pride would add two more runs in the ninth as Taylor Stuart had a run-scoring single and a second run scored on a double play.
Losing pitcher John Schilt went four innings and gave up nine hits and seven runs to see his record drop to 2-2. Brendan Lobban went seven innings for St. John's, allowing five hits and one run to improve to 4-2.
Hofstra is back in action this weekend in a key CAA series at UNC Wilmington. The Pride is in second place in the CAA at 9-3, one game behind the 10-2 Seahawks.
