Mountaineers Grab Three Top Finishes in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's track and field picked up three first-place finishes in Saturday's Mountain vs. Beach Invitational at Harold Greene Track.

The Mountaineers teamed up with Western Carolina in the annual event, which pitted the two Mountain schools against Beach rivals East Carolina and UNC Wilmington.

Despite a 353-321 victory for the Beaches, Appalachian churned out several impressive performances including a top finish from Shaquiela Robinson in the high jump (5'4.25").

Hannah Orders captured first-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:56.18 while Gayshawna Watkins took the shot put title with a toss of 44'0".

Other top finishes for Appalachian State included Molly Vaughn, who took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.80) and Asia Dunlap, who finishes fourth in the 400-meter run (56.18).

Breanna Alston was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.88 seconds and also finished second in the  200-meter dash (24.45) while Shenita Martin grabbed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.93).

Cassie Crawford was the pole vault runner-up with a vault of 12'3.50" and Erika Ivey finished third in the triple jump (37'11.25"). Jasmine Suydam finished second in the shot put (43'6") to round out the Mountaineers' top finishers in the field events.

Appalachian State returns to action at the Auburn Invitational next Saturday before hosting the Appalachian Open Meet on April 13.
