FOSTER CITY, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's rowing team finished its fall competition schedule on Sunday racing in the Head of the Lagoon hosted by the Stanford Rowing Center on the Foster City Lagoon. The Gaels had seven boats competing in four events and finished the day taking home gold in three events and silver in another.
First up for Saint Mary's was the Women's 4 race, the SMC "A" boat took first while the "B" grabbed second in a four boat race, defeating Santa Clara and Cal-Maritime. The "A" boat finished with a time of 21:23 while the "B" boat came in just behind with a time of 22:09. The lineup for the "A" boat was: Natalie Livingston, Christina Bennett, Maryann Concannon, Deanna Estes, Haley Adams. While the "B" boat was manned by: Mareme Diakhate, Nicolette Pierantoni, Nathalie Lambrecht, Rachel Alvarez, Alex Iwaszewicz.
Next up for SMC was the Novice-8 race. The Gaels once again had two boats medal, with the "A" boat winning gold in a tie with Stanford, while the "B" finished just behind in third. The "A" boat clocked in with a time of 21:36 while the "B" finished with a time of 22:09. In the "A" boat for SMC was: Bennett Collier, Michelle Felmlee-Gardner, Taylor Cole, Hayley Steel, Stacey Boss, Katie Wahl, Allison McKenzie, Rebecca Beutler, Tessa Cunha. While the "B" boat consisted of: Jessica Sin, Brianna McRee, Mari Irby, Felicia McPhaul, Caitlin Evans, Makenna Lee, Julia Turner, Cabrina Gomez, Allie Backers.
Next on the water for Saint Mary's was the women's pairs race. In a three boat field the Gaels took first and third. SMCA finished ahead of Santa Clara with a time of 23:57 winning the San Mateo Cup. The lineup for the boat was: Christina Bennett, Savina Brown. SMCB finished with a time of 25:37 with the lineup of Kira Paulin and Brandy Cho.
The final race of the fall season was the Women's Open 1 race. SMC had one rower who placed ninth out of 10 boats. Rowing for SMC was Dana Cook who finished with a time of 26:37.
