MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team kept the pressure on Virginia Commonwealth the entire game and broke through with a goal in the 82nd minute as Christina Tognetti sent home the game-winner. With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 5-1-1 while VCU drops to 1-5-1.

The Gaels have a shot to capture their own Tournament as they will face Utah on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Utah defeated UC Riverside 2-1.

In the 82nd minute, Daelyn Paul dribbled near the left side of the box and sent a cross. Jordan Marada headed the ball, followed by a chest wrap pass by Briana Campos, and Tognetti fired the ball into the net from inside the box for the game-winner.

In the first half, the Gaels controlled most of the half taking an 8-2 lead in shots. SMC had the only corner kick of the first half.

In the second half, with the game tied at 0-0, SMC got a team save from Melinda Madden off a rebound to prevent the Rams from taking the lead.

Kate Brenot tallied two saves in recording her second career shutout. Kristin Carden of VCU had a busy day in goal making six saves and allowing Tognetti's score.

Offensively, Tognetti fired off five shots with three on goal. Marada and Kaytlyn Steele each had three shots while Alyssa Stearns and Madden also had shots on goal.

For VCU, Courtney Conrad had two of VCU's three shots on goal while Maren Johandsen had the other shot.
