The Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams set a program mark with 16 student-athletes named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team as announced by the conference.
Among the 16 Griffs named to the conference team, nine were from the men's team and seven from the women's.
A total of nine men achieved the honor, including three representatives from each of the senior, junior, and sophomore classes. Earning their third selections were seniors Tyler Carver (3.280 GPA - Animal Behavior Ecology Conservation), Robby Novak (3.420 GPA - Accounting), and Shawn Parkhurst (3.820 GPA - Physical/Health Education).
Juniors Andrew Edbauer (3.300 GPA - History) and Adam Swift (3.300 GPA - Digital Media Arts) both received their second selections, while fellow junior Corey Petrie (3.400 GPA - Information Systems) and sophomores Shane Donovan (3.410 GPA - Accounting), Sam Hansen (3.920 GPA - Psychology), and Sean Wurster (3.850 GPA - Biology) earned their first selections.
The women's honorees included juniors Maggie DeMarco (3.470 GPA - Adolescence Education), Kelli Graber (3.830 GPA - Physical/Health Education), and Leah Villari (3.310 GPA - Special/Childhood Education). DeMarco and Graber earned their second selection with Villari receiving her first nod.
Also securing their first selections were sophomores Taylor Epstein (3.220 GPA - Health and Wellness), Mary Hoak (3.380 GPA - Special/Early Childhood Education), Sara Nungesser (3.350 GPA - Mathematics and Statistics), and Alyse Stevenson (3.710 GPA - Psychology).
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.2 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
