In their final dual of the regular season, the Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams will head south to face SUNY Fredonia on Saturday morning at the Steele Hall Natatorium. The dual will mark the first time the two schools will meet since the 1989-90 season.

Last Time Out for Canisius

This past weekend, the Golden Griffin men and women swept MAAC rival Niagara on Saturday afternoon at the Oxy Aquatic Center. The Griff men captured their sixth dual-win in their last seven meets, defeating the host Purple Eagles, 168.5-72.5. After falling the previous week to 19th nationally-ranked Gannon, the Griff women bounced back with a 147-96 victory.

The Golden Griffin women secured nine first-place honors in the individual events, including a top finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Winning a pair of races each were junior Anna Schena and freshman Clare Battaglia. Schena captured first place in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:58.88) and 200-yard butterfly (2:15.11) races, while Battaglia took the top spot in both the 200-yard IM (2:14.38) and 200-yard backstroke (2:14.16). The freshman improved her total total number of first-place performances this season to 16, claiming her fourth straight first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke.

On the men's side, the Griffs captured their third dual over the Purple Eagles in their last four meetings. In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of seniors Shawn Parkhurst, Tyler Carver, Matt Moessinger, and Mike Disco set the tone for the meet with a first-place finish, as the Griffs occupied three of the top-four slots in the relay race. The Blue and Gold managed to sweep a pair of events in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke. Winning a pair of events was sophomore Sam Hansen, who placed first in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events.

In the diving events against the Purple Eagles, freshman Audrey Mulhisen nabbed her fourth top-finish in the 3-meter with senior Alexa Gigliotti finishing first in the 1-meter. Sophomore Eddie Quarantillo was the only male to post a score above 200 in the 3-meter event with a mark of 255.45. The sophomore set a career high in the 1-meter event with a score of 284.18, coming within five points of breaking the program record held by Earl Lindsey since the 1994-95 season.

Scouting SUNY Fredonia

Entering this weekend, the Blue Devil men only have one dual victory in six total meets this season, including three losses decided by less than 10 points. On the other hand, the Blue Devil women hold an overall record of 4-3 in duals this season. Among their four victories, the Blue Devils took down Gannon by the score of 130-86 on Dec. 7 for the program's first win over the Knights.

Over a month later on Jan. 12, the Griffs would fall to the host Knights at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion, 127-78. At that time, the Knights entered the weekend against the Griffs ranked 19th in the NCAA Division II national rankings.

In recent action on Jan. 12, the Blue Devil men and women swept both Nazareth squads at home. The Blue Devil men defeated the Flyers, 163-118, with three multi-event winners. In swimming, John Estanislau claimed the 100- and 1000-yard freestyle races and Liam Jones took both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly events. At the Trinity Diving Invitational on Jan. 18, Fuller won the 1-meter event en route to being awarded the SUNYAC Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season.

In the women's tri-meet, the Blue Devils dominated Nazareth in a 193.5-104.5 victory, but fell to Ithaca, 152-148. Blue Devils' Stephanie Andrasek and Elizabeth Schake each won a pair of individual events each.
