The Canisius College men's and women's cross country team will compete in the 39th annual Brooks Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday afternoon. As one of the largest cross country meets in the nation, the day will feature over 400 high school and college teams with over 5,000 competitors. This year's meet will feature the highest level of competition in race history.

Featuring three men's and women's collegiate races on each side, the Golden Griffin men and women will each compete in the Brown race. The men's 8K-race will begin at 12:15 p.m. followed by the women's 6K-race at approximately 1 p.m.

The Golden Griffin men will race in a field featuring 33 teams from across the country. Joining the Griffs will be three other Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference members, including Loyola, Manhattan, and Little Three rival Niagara.

The Griff men will be making their eighth all-time appearance at the Brooks Paul Short Run. In 1992, the Griffs recorded their best team-finish of tenth place. Former Griff Tom Appenheimer led the way for the Griffs that year, placing a program-best individual-finish of 26th overall with a time of 31:55.

At last year's race on Sept. 30, the Griff men placed 19th in a field of 46 teams. On the rain-drenched course, sophomore Chad Maloy and junior Nate McCabe led the Griffs' top-20 finish. Maloy placed 42nd overall with a time of 26:28 followed closely by McCabe, who clocked in at 26:32 for 45th overall.

The Golden Griffin women will compete in a field of 40 teams, including Pittsburgh, Princeton, South Florida, and Temple. Among MAAC competition, the Griffs will be joined by conference opponent and Little Three rival Niagara.

The Griff women will take the course at the Brooks Paul Short Run for the seventh time in program history. The Griffs best finish at the race came in 2010 with a fourth-place finish among 41 teams after placing 38th overall in 2008. In 2010, former Griff Maura Frauenhofer captured a program-best individual-finish of second overall in a time of 21:39.

Running on a soaked course, the Griff women finished 20th among 44 teams. Former Griffs' Christine Mulvihill and Jill Shea placed 38th and 41st, respectively. Mulvihill clocked in at 23:06, while Shea finished the course in 23:09.
