The Canisius College synchronized swimming team tied reigning national champion Ohio State for first place at the Wheaton College Invitational on Sunday afternoon. At the Invitational, the Golden Griffins and Buckeyes scored a total of 92 points each to share first place followed by host Wheaton with 76 points in third place.

"I am so proud of my team! They rose to the occasion and went head-to-head with Ohio State's A-team," said Canisius head coach Jill Wright. "We have worked really hard and it's so rewarding to see it finally pay off".

In the trio portion of the Wheaton Invitational, the Golden Griffins captured the top-two places ahead of any of Ohio State's trios.

The key to the Golden Griffins' first-place tie with the Buckeyes came in the A figures. The Golden Griffins' average ousted the Buckeyes' average, securing key points to share the crown for first place.

"Canisius really scared us," said Ohio State head coach Linda Lichter-Witter. "They looked great and are in a fabulous place at this point in the season".

Sophomore Morgan Lebrecht captured the individual title in the B figures.

Canisius will return to action on March 3 and 4 at the ECAC Regional Championship at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool, as the host Golden Griffins will look to capture their 15th consecutive team-title.
