Former Golden Griffin standout Matt Vinc led the Rochester Knighthawks to their second-straight National Lacrosse League championship on Saturday, earning the win in goal in Rochester’s 11-10 victory against Washington.

Vinc recorded 39 saves in the winning effort, including a stop with less than 10 seconds remaining to preserve the 11-10 victory.

During the 2013 campaign, Vinc backstopped a Knighthawks defense that allowed the fewest goals in the NLL. He was named NLL Goaltender of the Year for the third time in his career and also collected All-Pro honors for the fourth time. Vinc is the first goalkeeper in league history to win Goaltender of the Year accolades on three occasions and also the first to collect the award and win the championship in the same season.

A native of St. Catharines, Ontario, Vinc set an NLL single-season record with 662 saves during the 2013 season and now owns three of the top five totals. He also led the league with a 10.17 goals against average and a team-record .803 save percentage.

Vinc, a four-year defender at Canisius, led the Griffs in ground balls in three different seasons and ranks fifth in the program's record book with 258 career ground balls. A 2004 and 2005 All-MAAC selection, he was the sixth overall selection in the 2005 NLL Draft after graduating from Canisius. Vinc also represented Canada during the two most recent Men's Lacrosse World Championships, helping the squad to the gold medal in 2006 and silver in 2010 from the defensive position.
