Karl Nonemaker begins his third year on the Monarchs staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Three of the Monarch newcomers of a year ago earned CAA All-Rookie
honors in 2013.

"We are really excited to have Karl on our staff here at ODU. Karl was an outstanding collegiate player at Vanderbilt, and had a very good professional playing career, and has a great start to his coaching career. His experiences at Auburn, where we worked together for a year before I left for WKU, working on the professional side with Louisville Slugger and at Monmouth University where he helped them win a conference championship this year, will all be a great benefit to our program here. Karl has a magnetic personality that is really going to make him a great ambassador for Old Dominion University baseball."- Chris Finwood.

A four-year starter at Vanderbilt University and 2002 Major League Baseball Draft choice of the Philadelphia Phillies,

Nonemaker served as an assistant coach at Monmouth for three years prior to coming to ODU. He joined the Monmouth University Baseball staff as an assistant coach in 2010 as recruiting coordinator, as well as focusing on position players, hitting, defense and baserunning. In 2011, Monmouth won the NEC regular season title with a 36-19 overall mark and 25-7 conference record, winning every league series.

Nonemaker tutored NEC Player of the Year, and Louisville Slugger/TPX Third Team All-American second baseman Ryan Terry who ranked second in the league with a .382 batting average along with seven homers and 43 RBI for the Blue and White.

"When I think of ODU, I think of baseball. I grew up in time when the name ODU baseball was synonymous with winning. I feel honored to be a part of a program that is so rich in history. You can tell there is an excitement not only for ODU, but ODU baseball. Working along side Coach Finwood again is outstanding. He has been a great friend and mentor for me ever since we worked together in 2004. The players who play here and will play here in the future are not only going to play for a great baseball coach, but also for a tremendous person, who will make their experience rewarding and enjoyable." - Karl Nonemaker.

Nonemaker, who left Vanderbilt as the program's all-time leader in hits (283) and batting average (.369) for four years, was named a Freshman All-American in 1999, and was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference outfielder in 2000.

A 20th round draft choice of Philadelphia in 2002, Nonemaker went on to be a member of the Phillies Gulf Coast Championship team in '02, and in 2003, split the year between the Lakewood BlueClaws (Single-A) and the Reading Phillies (Double-A).

Following his playing days, Nonemaker began his coaching career at Auburn University in 2004. The former Commodore coached for three seasons at AU, helping guide the Tigers to a Regional Final in 2005.

Prior to joining Monmouth, he coached at the Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, helping lead his teams to top-five state finishes in both seasons. In 2008, the team finished fifth in New Jersey, and claimed No. 2 overall in the state in 2009.

Nonemaker, a Southeastern Conference Scholar Athlete honor roll selection four straight years graduated from Vanderbilt with a bachelor of science degree in Human and Organizational Development in 2002.
