Former University of Richmond standout Ashley Vellines completed her third season as an assistant coach for the ODU women's lacorsse team in 2015.

The program completed it's first season in the Atlantic-Sun Conference in 2015, a year in which ODU was the regular season runners-up and made its first conference tournament since 2009. The Monarchs went 13-5 overall, which marked the most wins in a season since ODU went 13-5 in 2002, and posted a 6-1 mark in league play. The Monarchs also tied the program record for goals in a game twice this season, scoring 24 against Gardner-Webb (24-1) and Howard (24-6).

In her second season, ODU won games against future conference opponent Stetson, St. Joseph's and a thrilling comeback win against Liberty.

In her first season on the sidelines, Vellined helped ODU to defeat rival William & Mary in comeback fashion for the second straight season and saw three Lady Monarchs earn All-CAA accolades: Alexandra Burns (Second Team All-CAA), Christina Rea (Second Team All-CAA) and Rachel Shaw (All-CAA Rookie Team).

Vellines, formerly Friend, spent the previous three years as the group and premium services manager at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

A 2007 graduate of Richmond, she was a four-year starting midfielder and posted a record of 46-17 (.730) while winning the Atlantic 10 conference three times. A draw specialist for the Spiders, Vellines racked up 108 draws and is fifth all-time in school history in goals (151), seventh in assists (42) and seventh in points (193).

A two-time All-Conference First Team selection, Vellines, who hails from Canandaigua, N.Y., comes from a strong lacrosse family as her father played at Bowling Green and Geneseo State. Her younger sister Mandy played with Vellines at Richmond and finished as the school's all-time leader in goals, assists and points while her youngest sister Abbey is a rising senior at North Carolina and was the national freshman of the year in 2011.

Earning her masters degree in recreation and sport management from VCU in 2008, Vellines and her husband John reside in Norfolk.
