Towson Holds Off Monarchs Rally

TOWSON, MD--Senior shortstop Josh Wright knocked in three runs while firstbaseman Chris Baker and catcher Josh Tutwiler knocked in two runs each in the Monarchs 14-10 loss to Towson Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
Towson (14-15/8-5), who pounded out 17 hits on the day jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Ben Winter led off with a double then scored on Dominic Fratantuono's triple. Fratantuono then scored on a Kurt Wertz's sacrifice fly to centerfield.
In the second Andrew Parker slammed the first of his two-run homers to leftfield with Zach Fisher aboard. Ben Winter then scored from second on Brendan Butler's RBI single with two outs to make it 5-0. Parker hit another two run shot in Towson's four-run fourth inning.
Towson starter Michael Trionfo (6-1) held ODU hitless until the sixth when freshman outfielder Josh Eldridge doubled with one out in the sixth, then scored on Chris Baker's double. Baker later scored on a groundout RBI by Tutwiler.
Trailing 14-5, ODU scored five runs in the top of the ninth on just one hit along with five walks and a hit batsmen. Senior thirdbaseman Brent Frazier, Eldridge, and Chris Baker each walked with the bases loaded to force in a run. Josh Tutwiler's sacrifice fly plated another run and Ben Verlander singled home the 10th and final run for the Monarchs.
Ben Winter and Andrew Parker led Towson with three hits each. The two teams play Saturday at 2 p.m.
