MTEN | Gaels Earn 6-1 Win Over Sacramento State

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team earned an important confidence boosting 6-1 win over Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex. The Gaels swept through doubles play and won on all but one singles court to earn the win.

SMC improves to 2-6 on the season, while Sacramento State falls to 1-4 with the loss.

The Gaels opened up the match by dominating doubles play. Saint Mary's earned a quick 8-1 win on court two by Saad Benkirane and Maxime Olivan. Seif El Sherbini and Sherif Hamdy teamed up on court three to claim the doubles point for the Gaels with an 8-3 win over Roy Brandys and Blake Emery.

Steven Dawson-Roberts and Joakim Norstrom completed the doubles sweep for SMC on court one, defeating Sean Kolar and Javier Millan, 7-6 (5).

The Hornets stormed back in singles play to win the first point on court five, but the Gaels dominated the remaining matches to earn the 6-1 win. Sherif Hamdy and Saad Benkirane won quick matches on courts two and three, before Joakim Norstrom claimed the match for Saint Mary's on court four.

Maxime Olivan and Samuel Bloore also earned singles wins to give the Gaels the big win.

Saint Mary's will return to the courts on Wednesday, February 22 when they host Bay Area WCC rival San Francisco. The match between the Gaels and the Dons will begin at 3 p.m. from the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
