SEATTLE, Wash. - With the help of former Tiger All-American outfielder Casper Wells, the Seattle Mariners handed the slumping Baltimore Orioles a 6-3 loss in the opening game of their three-game series on Monday night.

The Mariners entered the bottom of the seventh inning, trailing by 3-1. Seattle loaded the bases on a walk to Dustin Ackley, a one-out single by Munenori Kawasaki and a two-out walk to Ichiro Suzuki. Then, Wells drilled a double to centerfield off Jason Hammel, scoring all three runners to give Seattle a 4-3 lead. The Mariners added two more runs in the eighth inning as they handed Baltimore a 6-3 loss, the Orioles' third loss in a row.

Casper, who had two hits against the Orioles, is now batting .263 in 40 games for the Mariners this season.

A second team All-American at Towson in 2005, Casper was the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2005 as he led the Tigers to a 34-24 record and a second place finish in the CAA. He was drafted by Detroit in the 14th round.
