BOWIE, Md. - Playing in front of nearly two dozen former teammates, friends and family members this week, former Tiger shortstop Nick Natoli showed off the defensive prowess that enabled him to be named as the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year twice.

A member of the Portland Sea Dogs, the Eastern League affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, Nick started in two of the three games in Bowie. Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Baysox swept the three-game set.

After sitting out the series opener, Nick started at third base on Wednesday night and batted ninth for Sea Dogs. He struck out twice and drew a walk as the Sea Dogs were the victims of a two-hit shutout. Playing third base, he had one putout with three assists. In the bottom of the second inning, Nick went to his right and fielded a hard ground ball by Zealous Wheeler, robbing Wheeler of a hit.

With two outs in the sixth and a runner on first, Brian Ward hit a soft ground ball towards shortstop. Nick cut in front of shortstop Ryan Dent and made a nifty backhanded flip to second baseman Zach Gentile to get a force out at second.

In the series finale, Nick was the Sea Dogs' starting shortstop. He played well defensively once again with one putout and three assists. However, Portland was shut out again.

Many of his former Tiger teammates, including Steve Rice, John Schmeer, Eric Weller and Chris Wychock, were in attendance throughout the series.
