NEW YORK, N.Y. – Led by senior thrower Shianna Smith, the Towson Tigers had an outstanding day at the New York Armory while competing in the Lafayette-Rider Invitational Friday afternoon.

Smith won the weight throw and shot put events in the meet for the Tigers. Smith’s victory in the weight throw was her fifth of the season in the event. It was a throw of 56' 9.25".

Smith and classmate Shannel Shivers finished first and second in the shot put. Smith's winning throw was of 42' 4".

“For us, it’s really important to have good throwers,” Towson Head Coach Roger Erricker said. “It’s like we have points in the bank. Our focus is good and our team is coming together. The team dynamic is really improving and that’s something you have to work on as a young team. I was very pleased with the effort.”

Evan Campbell won the high jump and Katie Ogden qualified for the ECACs in the 5,000-meter run for the Tigers.

Campbell's jump was 5' 5".
