Chicago, Ill. - Senior forward Cheyenne Skidmore scored her first goal of the season, but the Towson University women's soccer team dropped its season-opener to DePaul, 2-1, on Friday evening at Wish Field. The Blue Demons improved to 1-0, while the Tigers fell to 0-1.

"It's too hard to put yourself into a hole 10 seconds into a game," said Head Coach Greg Paynter.  "You fight so hard to come back and then maybe run out of energy at the end. The girls fought hard. DePaul won the first half, but the second was very even. We got tremendous goalkeeping from Erin Quinn. She made four or five top-notch saves. Cheyenne had a great finish on her goal to keep us alive in the second."

DePaul got on the board in the first minute after Ashleigh Goddard snuck past the defense and scored off a pass from Natasa Radosavljevic. The two paired up again in the 13th minute when Radosavljevic received a through ball from Goddard and scored.

Towson's defense stood strong, and the Tigers mounted an attack later in the second half with Skidmore's goal in the 66th minute. She received a through ball from junior midfielder Kat Sipes and shot near post to score. However, the Tigers' comeback attempt fell short as time wound down.

Quinn made six saves for the Tigers to Megan Pyrz's one, but the Blue Demons outshot the Tigers, 16-6. DePaul also held the edge on corners, 7-4.

The Tigers travel to Valparaiso on Sunday, August 19 to take on the Crusaders at 2 p.m. EST.
