VMI is currently ninth of the nine teams eligible for the conference’s postseason event, which will be held next week in Boiling Springs, N.C. In order to make that tournament, the Keydets must defeat High Point Saturday, and then see UNC Asheville lose to Presbyterian in a match that starts at 2 p.m. in Asheville.
If those two events occur, VMI would tie UNC Asheville in the season standings, and would advance on the strength of its Sept. 25 2-1 win. If only one (or neither) occurs, Asheville earns the tournament berth.
High Point enters at just 7-9-2 overall, but was the preseason pick to win the Big South, and will bring in seven players that have at least seven points on the year. That list includes Karo Okiomah, last year’s Big South Player of the Year.
VMI enters after falling 3-2 to Campbell on Oct. 29. Kip Zechman posted his first career multi-goal game in the tight, closely-contested match.
