The VMI men's soccer team will face the newest member of the Big South, Campbell, in the Keydets' final road match of 2011. Game time Saturday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C. is set for 5 p.m.
VMI (1-13-2) enters looking for its second conference win of the year, and first away from Patchin Field. The Keydets will do so after an eight-day layoff, as they last played Oct. 21, dropping a 4-1 decision to then-#16 Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. In order to advance to the Big South Tournament, VMI must win one of its final two games and get help from either Liberty, High Point, or UNC Asheville, the three teams directly above them in the standings.
Campbell (8-6-2) comes into this match on a roll, as they have won three straight matches, including prevailing over Liberty and Winthrop. Junior Mitchell Cardenas leads the Camels with 14 points on the year, while two keepers have split time in net, posting a combined GAA of 1.33 and a save percentage of .756.
After this contest, VMI returns home for its final match of the regular season, playing host to High Point on Senior Day at Patchin Field. The contest will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.
