Thunderbirds Sweep Cross Country Athlete of the Year Awards

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Nov. 30 - Seniors Cameron Levins and Diana Medina-Mitchell were voted Summit League Cross Country Athletes of the Year after racing to individual victories at the conference championship.
Levins earned his second athlete of the year award after setting league-best records of 18:36.20 in the 6k, 22:58.7 in the 8k and 29:04.8 in the 10k this season. He also tied a league record of four Athlete of the Week awards, setting a new record for career awards with 13.
Aside from a first-place finish at the conference and Championship MVP recognition, Levins also went on to earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors after a second-place finish at the Mountain Region. Moving on to the national level, he then earned USTFCCCA All-American recognition with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA National Championship.
Medina-Mitchell earned her first Athlete of the Year award after recording a league-best 5k time of 17:10.87 and 6k time of 20:20.2. Her award marks the third consecutive year an SUU woman has earned the honor after Jamie Smith in 2010 and Sharla Platt-Manuele in 2009.
Medina-Mitchell also earned a Championship MVP award and went on to become a USTFCCCA All-Region selection after a 10th-place finish at the Mountain Region championship.
Levins and Medina-Mitchell will return to compete with the Thunderbirds with the opening of the indoor track & field season, set to begin Jan. 14 at the Lumberjack Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.
