MEAC Announces Tennis Weekly Honors

Norfolk State's Arsenio Culver and South Carolina State's Suhaila Jud were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week the conference announced on Thursday. NSU's Daniel Grauel received Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week accolades, while SCSU's Victoria Khateci was named the Women's Tennis Rookie of the week honor.

Culver (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) posted a 4-0 record at the No. 1 singles position with straight set wins over Delaware,Liberty, LaSalle and Rider. The senior was also 4-0 in doubles play.

Jad (Sr., Spain) captured the singles win 6-1, 6-3 against Bethune-Cookman at No. 1 spot and teamed with Sabrina Mendez to win the double point 8-3. The win aided the Lady Bulldogs to an undefeated mark in MEAC play and the southern divisional title.  

Grauel (Fr., Munich, Germany) was 3-1 in singles action at the number five singles positions last week. He also was 1-1 in doubles play with a 8-4 win against LaSalle and a 8-5 loss to Rider.

Khateci (Fr., Bulgaria) captured the singles win 6-4, 6-2 against Bethune-Cookman at No. 5 spot to extend her win streak to 13. She also teamed with Laura Bosneag to win in doubles 8-4.

Other Top Performances:

Nicole Ashiedu (SSU) captured the point at the No. 3 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in a non-conference win against Coppin State.

Naeemah Brooks (NSU) was 2-2 in singles play with wins over Philadelphia University and Rider at the No. 1 singles position.

Kenya Colbert (NCAT) teamed with April Burrage to defeat Bethune-Cookman in doubles at the number three spot, 8-3. 

Sandra Dis Kristjansdottir (SSU) was 2-1 in singles play last week with wins against Norfolk State and Coppin State.

Laura Gutierrez (NSU) earned victories against Philadelphia University and Rider last week.

Anton Protsenko (SCSU) was 2-0 last week with wins against Bethune-Cookman and Gardner-Webb.

Jack Waissen (NCCU) was 1-1 in singles play last week, including a 7-6, 6-4 win at the number one singles position.
