Canisius College softball player Lizzy Gatto has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Gatto advances to the national ballot, where the First-Team members from the eight regions will be selected for Division I All-America honors.
Gatto, a two-time MAAC All-Academic honoree, is currently hitting .305 in 44 games with eight doubles, a team-high six home runs, a triple, 33 runs scored, 23 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. Her six homers this season are the most for a Canisius outfielder since 2005, and she heads into the final weekend of the regular season ranked second all-time at Canisius with 62 career stolen bases, tied for eighth with 32 career doubles, fifth in career runs scored with 118 and she is tied for 10th all-time with 12 career home runs. The senior centerfielder was named the MAAC Player of the Week March 26 and she is one of three MAAC to be named to the District 1 Academic All-District team.The Canisius softball will close out 2012 regular season this Sunday when the team plays host to Rider at 11 a.m., on Senior Day at the Demske Sports Complex.
