William Hiker Joy (Football Coach, 1931-1938) - Hiker Joy came to Canisius College as head football coach from Fordham University in 1933. In his first season as coach, his combined effort and determination immediately resurrected the Varsity Football team from a five-year slump. During the next five ensuing campaigns, the team only had one losing season. Over his six-year span as a coach, from 1933-1938, the team had a record of 26 victories, 17 defeats and three ties. In the 1936-1937 season the Canisius College Varsity football team won the Bishop Turner Trophy, a symbol of Little Three football supremacy. Under the guidance of William Hiker Joy, the Canisius College football team developed into one of the best teams to ever represent the school.
