Position:
William J. Covelli (’84) -  A four-year letterwinner in crew, Covelli and the Canisius College crew team captured the Small-College Championship at the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) in 1983. A team captain in 1984, the varsity squad won six races and the overall title at the state championship. A member of Buffalo’s West Side Rowing Club since 1980, Bill was honored with the club’s Broderick Plate in 1982, which the club presents to the best overall oarsman. In 1982, he and the other members of his WSRC crew won a gold medal at the United States Rowing Championships and a silver medal at the Canadian Nationals; the following year they took gold once again at the U.S. Championships, becoming the first WSRC team to win back-to-back championships. Bill returned to his alma mater in 1985 to coach the crew team and led the to their second national title in three years.
