The Battle of the Bridge rages on, as the Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams host rival Niagara on Saturday morning at the Koessler Athletic Center. Saturday's season finale will be a special dual for particular Golden Griffins, as a total of five seniors will swim in their final home meet.  Diving events will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the swimming events at 1 p.m.

The Golden Griffin men enter Saturday's dual coming off their fifth dual win of the season, a dominating team-effort over Gannon, 148-86. The Golden Griffins captured first-place finishes in nine of the day's events, including a sweep of the top two spots in five of the events.

For the Golden Griffin women, five points separated the team from completing a sweep of Gannon and MAAC opponent Siena. In the double-dual, Canisius toppled MAAC opponent Siena, 74-39, to collect their first conference win over the Saints, while falling, 59-54, to Gannon.

For Saturday's meet, the Canisius men will look to get back in the win column versus Niagara after falling last season to the Purple Eagles, 122-121.

In the 2009-10 season, the Golden Griffins defeated Niagara, 126-117, at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool. The home victory came down to the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay of current senior Steve Pochatko, current juniors Matt Moessinger and Mike Disco, and former Griff Randall Snodgrass. In their performance, the victory-clinching foursome set the Koessler Athletic Center Pool record (3:13.80).

The Canisius women will look to overturn its past outcomes of duals versus Niagara. The closest dual of head coach Scott Vanderzell's tenure was in 2008-09, as the Griffs fell, 126.6-115.5. At that time, the senior trio of Amina Benman, Kristen Toellner, and Kara Powalski were freshman. On Saturday, the trio will look to secure their first dual victory over the Purple Eagles in their careers.

Prior to the dual with Niagara, the senior trio of Benman, Toellner, and Powalski of the women's team and seniors Adam Calandra and Pochatko will be honored by the swimming and diving programs, as a part of Senior Day.
