CEDAR CITY, Utah - June 29 - Southern Utah University softball head coach Kyle Magnusson has announced the signees for the 2011-12 season.  The list includes a trio of Canadians, three players with ties to Utah and a pitcher from Las Vegas.

"We have a great group of players coming in next year," Magnusson said of the list.  "We anticipate that a lot of the players coming will compete for spots in the starting line-up and will really provide a boost to our bullpen and bench."

Megan Gurski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Tessa Loewen (Abbotsford, British Columbia) were teammates on the women's junior national team (16U) for Canada, competing in the Czech Republic in 2009.  The tournament included teams from Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Russia, South Africa, China, Dominican Republic, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and Puerto Rico.  Gurski also found a wealth of success at the club level, leading the Saskatoon Lasers to a pair of Bantam Girls Western Canadian championships in 2009 and 2010.

A third Canadian, Kelsey Bryant (Surrey, British Columbia) will join the team after a two-year career at the College of Southern Idaho.  She will be joined by teammate Mikkel Griffin (St. George, Utah) as the duo led the Golden Eagles to an overall record of 44-19 last year.  Griffin was a two-time NJCAA all-American after setting school records with a career average of .478, 48 home runs and 175 RBI during her two years in Twin Falls.  Bryant earned two all-conference citations and finished in the top three each year in batting average and RBI with career numbers of a .431 average and 129 RBI.

Mallory Hyland (Murray, Utah) will also join Southern Utah from the junior college ranks after playing the past two season at Snow College.  Hyland will bring speed to the base paths for the T-Birds after finishing her career as a Badger with 36 stolen bases.  Hyland also hit well at the plate with a career mark over .300 and a career-best nine triples as a freshman.

Amber Marlett (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Dallas Vega (West Jordan, Utah) will enter as true freshmen after prepping at Rancho High School and Copper Hills High School, respectively.  Marlett was a four-time first-team all-conference honoree for the Rams and helped RHS to the 2011 Northwest Conference championship.  Vega earned first-team all-state honors this past season, playing catcher for the Grizzlies.
