OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's tennis team used their depth today to come out victorious in a non-conference match with the Kangaroos of UMKC.  Creighton won the doubles point, winning all three matches, and then took four-of-six in the singles competition to end the afternoon with a 5-2 win.  The win improves Creighton's record to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the MVC.

The Jays took the early lead when all three doubles teams won their matches.  Anna Kirshenbaum and Analese Snyder took the No. 1 doubles 8-6 over Eva Dalvai and Chelsea Horner.  In the No. 2 doubles, Kelsey Schmidt and Mary McMullan used an extragame to take the match from the Kangaroos 9-8.  Ensuring the Jays won the point, sisters Leesa Cadwallader and Sarah Cadwallader defeated Gabriela Pintos and Jessica Ball 8-1.

Starting off singles play, Schmidt gave Creighton a 2-0 lead when she defeated Horner 6-3, 6-0 in straight sets.  McMullan continued the scoring for the Jays, earning her point in the No. 5 singles by defeating Jillian Yakominich 6-0, 6-3.

The Kangaroos earned their first point when Laura Bouet defeated Snyder in the No. 2 singles position 6-1, 6-4, pulling the score to 3-1.  But the Jays clinched the match with a Lauren Mastro 6-0, 6-4 straight set win over Lisenby in the No. 4 singles.

Kirshenbaum and Eva Delvai were tied at one set a piece (6-4, 3-6) and played an extra first-to-ten point, which Delvai won to give the Kangaroos the point in No. 1 singles.  With a 4-2 score, Sarah Cadwallader added the extra point in No. 6 singles, defeating Jessica Ball 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

"We won today with our depth," said head coach Tom Lilly.  "We lost in our top two singles spots, but won the three through six because of our depth.  It was a good win at home."

The Jays return to action this weekend, hosting Eastern Michigan at 12:30 on Friday afternoon, and returning to the court for a 7:00 p.m. meeting with South Dakota State on Saturday.  Both matches will be played at the Koch Family Indoor Tennis Center.  Check for the latest scores and information on all your favorite Bluejay teams.
