BUDA, TEXAS (October 17, 2010) - Led by a dominate performance in women's slalom, the Rollins water ski team finished fifth in the top division at the National Collegiate Water Ski National Championships, bettering last year's finish by four spots.

Rollins' men's and women's teams combined to score 8715 points, 750 ahead of rival Florida Southern and just 110 points behind fourth place Arizona State. 

Louisiana Lafayette won the title with Louisiana Monroe taking second and Alabama finishing third.

Rollins' women finished third in their division with 5760 points, taking first in slalom, third in tricks and fourth in jumping.

The Tars had all five slalom participants finish in the top-16 and won the event with a score of 2115. Delfina Cuglievan led the Tars with a runner-up finish while Michale Briant was third. Veteran Michaela Cooper took 10th, Geena Krueger tied for 12th and Clementine Leger was 16th.

In tricks, Briant scored 1830 points to finish third individually and lead the team to a third place finish. Krueger took 11th with 1760 points and Cuglievan finished 19th with a score of 1110. Cooper (860) was 20th and Leger (770) finished 23rd.

Krueger popped off a jump of 125 feet and finished sixth in the event with Cuglievan's leap of 106 feet finishing tied for 11th. Cooper and Leger each recorded distances of 49 feet and took 27th and 28th, respectively and Briant's distance of 43 feet put her in 36th.

Overall, Krueger finished ninth with 1475 points with Cuglievan right behind in 10th with a score of 1435. Briant (1355) was 12th, Cooper (1210) 17th and Leger (1110) tied for 18th.

In the men's division, the Tars totaled 1475 points and finished seventh.

Grigoris Sarantis tied for second in the slalom to lead the Tars. Drew Phillips tied for 16th and Drew Doty took 36th. Billy Shugart tied for 31st and brother Thomas Shugart took 48th.

In tricks, Billy Shugart led the way with 805 points and a 29th place finish. Phillips (580) tied for 35th while Thomas Shugart and Robert Vezina both scored 225 and tied for 50th. Sarantis finished 56th in the event.

Jumping specialist Phillips recorded a distance of 144 feet and took 13th to lead Rollins. Sarantis (109 feet) was 24th and Billy Shugart (63 feet) finished 47th. Vezina took 50th and Thomas Shugart was 52nd.

Phillips took 14th place overall to lead the Tars men. Sarantis finished 19th, Billy Shugart 27th and Thomas Shugart 38th.
