Two Bearkats Named Academic All-Southland

 Tricia Mallory and Hailey Shelpuk have been named as selections on the 2011 Academic All-Southland Conference women's soccer honor squad.

Mallory, a sophomore from Spring Klein High School, is a first team selection. An All-Southland Conference honorable mention selection, Mallory was the leading goal scorer for the Bearkats for the second season in a row. With her eight goals during the 2011 campaign, she now ranks No. 2 in SHSU career goals with 19.

The accounting major holds a perfect 4.0 overall grade point average. She is a President's List 4.0 GPA student.

Shelpuk, a junior from McKinney Boyd High School, started all 22 matches this season as a member of a Bearkat defense that produced seven shutouts. She was second on the squad in minutes played (2,039).

A kinesiology major, she also owns a perfect 4.0 overall GPA. She is a President's List student.

Both players are part of a Bearkat soccer squad that has earned NCSCCAA national team academic awards each of the past three seasons.

Sam Houston State earned its third Southland Conference post-season berth in the past four years and reached the semifinals at the tournament in Natchitoches, La.
