Big Saturday Leads UNCW To Meet Sweep

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW opened its outdoor season in grand style as the Seahawks swept their own meet, the UNCW Seahawk Invitational, on Saturday at the Greene Track Complex.

The Seahawk men and women's teams combined to win 16 events on the final day of the meet.

Meena Reid paced the women with wins in the 100 and 200 meter sprints and also ran the leadoff leg of the winning 4x100 Relay. Also winning two individual events was freshman Clarissa Perkins, taking the top spot in the Shot Put and Discus Throw.

Adding event wins were Kirsta Mangum (100 Hurdles, 4x100 Relay), Jordan Daywalt (Pole Vault), Jessia Van Hulst (High Jump) and Johnique Fonville (Triple Jump).

On the men's side the Seahawks showed depth with seven different athletes winning events. Bob Vanderham claimed the 400 meters and later finished second in the 1500 to teammate Wil Zahorodny.

In the Hurdles it was David Lindsay and Anthony Colon winning the 110 and 400 Hurdles, respectively.

Aerial Chatman won the Triple Jump and Brad Hollowell posted the top height in the Pole Vault.

The Seahawks return to action on March 15-17 at the Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C.
