WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Second half goals from Jack Ward and Thomas Driver lifted UNCW to a 2-0 win over visiting Drexel for its first win in Colonial Athletic Association action on Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks halted a three-game losing skid with the win and raised their record to 3-6-0 and 1-2-0 in the CAA. The Dragons, meanwhile, dropped to 1-7-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the league.

Ward, a red-shirt freshman, scored what would be the game-winner in the 57th minute off a chip into the penalty area by senior Daniel Roberts, who would finish with two assists on the evening. Roberts sent his pass to the left side of the penalty area where Ward took a touch past his defender back towards the middle and curled a shot from 16 yards out inside the right post at the 56:52 mark. It was his first career goal.

Driver would notch the second goal of the evening off a set piece following a Drexel foul. Roberts sent the free kick into the penalty area where freshman Jacob VanCompernolle headed a cross into the middle and Driver headed home the pass to make it 2-0 in the 80th minute.

After trailing 4-3 in shots in the first half, UNCW stepped up its pressure in the second half and finished with a 16-9 advantage in the shot column.

Senior Brandon Miller recorded the clean sheet, being called upon to make just two saves as Drexel was shutout for the sixth time this season. DU keeper Pentti Pussinen made six saves.

UNCW continues CAA play on Oct. 5 at James Madison with a 7 p.m. start.
