Edwardsville, Ill. - Tennessee State ended the season on a winning note at SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers claimed an early lead and used three pitchers to collect a 4-1 victory. TSU finished the season 15-39 and 5-25 in Ohio Valley Conference play. SIUE concluded their season at 23-29, 13-16.
Shea Morris worked the first three innings of shutout ball before making way for Susie Burke. Morris allowed a hit in each inning and fanned three batters, giving her 190 on the season. Burke worked the fourth and fifth inning and gave up the loan Cougar run on three hits and two strikeouts. Burke was credited with her first win of the season and closed out her senior season at 1-7.
Olivia Gamache threw the last two innings to earn the first save of her career. Gamache allowed two hits and recorded her only strikeout on the final batter of the game.
For the second game in a row TSU got off to a fast start with two runs in the first. Aisha Walker and Savannah Gutierrez picked up the two Tiger hits of the inning, as well as the two runs scored. Walker scampered home on a wild pitch, while Gutierrez came home when Devin Amar was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.
In the fifth, the Tigers added another run on a two out rally. Gutierrez hit her third double of the season into right center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jordan Rehl got the clutch RBI single to drive in Gutierrez for a 3-0 lead.
TSU added an insurance run in the seventh as Tedra Alford crossed the plate on a ground out by Rehl for the 4-1 final.
