BOCA RATON, Fla. (November 6, 2011)- The Rollins men's soccer team used two first-half goals to claim the Sunshine State Conference Tournament crown over Barry, 2-0, Sunday afternoon. The Tars claimed their first SSC Tournament crown since 2006 and cement their spot in the upcoming NCAA Regional Tournament.

The Tars started the game on a mission and were rewarded for their aggressive play when Rob Crowley slotted home the first goal in the eighth minute. Alex Bisbee and Rafa Faria combined for the assists on the goal as the duo was able to break down the. Rollins was not done scoring as Rafa Faria collected his fourth goal of the tournament in the 23rd minute with a cross from Rob Crowley after Ricardo King set the play up with speed and early decision.

Rollins would press for another tally before the half and came close a few times, but Johnny Rodrigues and the backline would hold strong and keep the defecit at two goals. Barry would gain some confidence with a couple of quality attacks, but the Tars would keep the lead at two goals heading into the half.

The Bucs came out of the half with a plan and put pressure on the Tars backline and were rewarded in the 54th minute as Lucas Naboa was able to slide a ball past the outstretched arms of Keneil Baker. The game continued to be a physical test and the referee kept the play under control with a combined 11 yellow cards being issued .

The final 37 minutes saw Rollins control and defend the ball well enough to hold off the hard charging Bucs to claim the victory. The Tars finished the game with the advantage on the shot chart with Rollins cracking off 15 shots to the Bucs 11 shots. Baker provided another stellar performance collecting two saves, while Matt Bauchle saved a header that seemed destined to find the back of the net, but the senior found a way to head it out of harms way.

Rollins placed five players on the All-Tournament team along with Faria being named Most Outstanding Player. Nick Sowers, Crowley, Baker, and Bauchle joined Faria on the team for their stellar performances throughout the tournament.

With the regular-season and tournament now over the Tars will await the NCAA selection committee's decision on where Rollins will play its opening games of the tournament. The show is slated for 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7th.
