Men's Golf To Compete At Arkansas State Red Wolf Intercollegiate
WHAT'S AHEAD: The Drake men's golf squad travels to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the 54-hole Arkansas State Red Wolf Intercollegiate at the Ridge Point Country Club next Monday (April 2) and Tuesday (April 3).
Golfers will tee off starting with shotgun starts at 8:00 a.m. both days.
The 22-team field includes: Arkansas State (A), Arkansas State (B), Arkansas-Little Rock, Austin Peay, Belmont, DePaul, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Monroe, Meridian C.C., Missouri State, Murray State, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, SIU Edwardsville, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, Tennessee-Martin, Texas-Pan American, Troy and Vanderbilt.
A LOOK BACK: Sparked by five rounds in the 70s, Drake carded a final-round 301 for a 54-hole total of 916 (301-314-301=916) to finish 22nd among 29 teams at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by the College of William and Mary at the River Course at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va., last Tuesday (March 27).
Firing a final-round 73, redshirt freshman Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) was the Bulldogs' top finisher with a 223 (72-78-73=223) total, to tie for 35th place.
Freshman Blake Huser (Altoona, Iowa) was three strokes off Leland's pace, completing his tournament with a 226 (72-78-76=226) score, good for a 53rd-place tie.
Posting a 76, sophomore Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) tied for 97th place, shooting a three-round total of 232 (77-79-76=232).
Rounding out Drake's top-five was freshman Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and junior Ben Lyons (Centennial, Colo.). Worley fired a 78, good for a 126th-place tie (83-79-78=240), while Lyons shot a 76 to tie for 129th place (80-85-76=241).
UP NEXT: In its next-to-last tournament of the season, Drake travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Boilermaker Invitational (April 21-22).
