JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Iowa has always been the goal of Mississippi State's track and field team, and on Friday that goal became a reality.

Daundre Barnaby picked up the first qualification as he competed in the 400-meter dash quarterfinals. Running in heat three, Barnaby posted a personal best time of 45.85 to capture a heat win and a fifth place finish overall. Barnaby was joined in competition by Tavaris Tate (46.45) and James Harris (50.09) who finished 16th and 27th overall to just miss booking a trip to Iowa.

Nathan Arnett (50.29) secured his NCAA Championship spot as he finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles quarterfinal, finishing ahead of teammate Emanuel Mayers whose time of 51.09 placed him 14th, just two spots shy of qualifying.

Also competing for the Bulldogs on day two were D'Angelo Cherry and Jason Harper. Cherry (10.45) took his turn in the 100-meter dash quarterfinal where he finished just outside qualifying range at 20th, while Harper (48-4.50) finished 34th in the triple jump preliminary.

MSU's next qualification came in the female slate of the 400-meter dash. Jody-Ann Muir posted a personal best 52.00 to finish second in her heat and third overall, punching her ticket for the NCAA Championships.

Racquel Farquharson will have to wait until day three to see if she joins Muir in Iowa. Competing in the 100-meter hurdle preliminary, Farquharson posted a time of 13.29 to finish 14th and secure a spot in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Maroon and White action on day three will begin with Favian Cowards in the hammer throw at 1 p.m. CST and be non-stop until Harris, Mayers, Barnaby and Tate lace up for the men's 4x400-meter relay at 8:25 p.m. To follow all of day three's action, follow @msutrackjason on Twitter.
