STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to #23 Vanderbilt Sunday afternoon, but not without some tough fights in singles.

With the loss, State dropped to 7-12 overall, 1-9 in SEC play. Vanderbilt improved to 14-8, 6-4.

The Lady Bulldogs came out strong in doubles play, posting an early 2-1 lead at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, but Vanderbilt rallied back on court one to take an 8-4 victory against Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran. The court one win, along with an MSU default at the No. 3 position, secured the doubles point in Vandy's favor. Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares of the Commodores sealed the doubles sweep with a tight 8-6 triumph against Rosaline Dion and Petra Ferancova on court 2.

The Commodores began singles play with leads on all five courts, taking the first set at all five positions. Starting singles competition with a 2-0 lead due to MSU's default on court six, the Lady Commodores extended that lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win for Lauren Mira against Olesya Tsigvintseva at the No. 2 position. Vandy clinched the victory as Antal came back from a 2-0 deficit in the second set to defeat MSU's Ferancova 6-2, 6-4 on court four.

Perper dropped her first set against 34th-ranked Wu 6-2, but rallied back with a 6-2 win to split sets. The two battled back and forth in the third but Perper was unable to hold off Wu, dropping the third set 6-3. On court three, Tran fell 6-3 in her first set against No. 106 ranked Marie Casares. The MSU freshman fired into the second set gaining an early 5-2 lead, but Casares rallied to win 7-6 in the match's deciding tiebreaker. The Commodores final victory went to Nelly Radeva as she posted a 7-5, 6-2 triumph against Dion after a grueling first set on court five.

The next home court action for the Lady Bulldogs will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, when State closes the regular season hosting rival Ole Miss. The match will be Senior Day for the team's lone graduating senior, Olesya Tsigvintseva.
